The American Dream… Is It Dead?

Ever wonder if the American Dream is dead?

Come on, show of hands :) I think the majority, if not all of us, were brought up to believe that everyone has an opportunity to be anything that they wanted.  All you had to do was go to school, get good grades and from there go on to college and get a 4 year degree.  Once you graduated, you could get the job of your dreams.

Maybe that was the case a long time ago, but not so much today.  Today, too many kids are graduating college and can’t get a job.  Not only that, but the skilled and experienced workers are out of work as well and can’t find jobs either.  And those people that are fortunate enough to find jobs are working jobs that they didn’t go to school for and end up making 2 to 3 times less than what they use to make.

So again I ask is the American Dream dead?

Instead of coming out of school and starting the career they’ve been working so hard to get, they end up not finding a job and then are saddled with this huge amount of debt from student loans.  Now in my opinion, a job has always meant to me “Just Over Broke” because you are never paid what you’re worth.  You are paid just enough I think to shut you up and then you spend your time making someone else rich.  So again I ask, is the American Dream dead?

Well, it could be… or at least the garbage that you got fed growing up is now in the past.  I’ve talked to a lot of people that feel the same way and a lot who also think that this whole school thing, the college thing is a scam.  A scam because you’re brainwashed into thinking that if you go to college and graduate that you will be able to get a good job doing what you went to school to learn.

Now, don’t get me wrong – I’m not knocking college.  I think you should go if you have an opportunity because it will add so much value to who you are and help you to grow intellectually.  Ultimately when you grow that can only be good for the community as well.

However, there should also be an alternate plan. Students should also be taught about entrepreneurship so that they know they have more than one path available to them.  So, when I ask is the American dream dead, it doesn’t have to be.  We just need to realize that we need to look at different ways to do things and not think that what we’ve been told all these years is gospel and that it is the only way.

Before I go, I’d just like to leave you with this video that speaks some very powerful words of inspiration.  I don’t know this person nor am I endorsing him, but I found it and I thought it is very profound.  So enjoy and remember we can create our own American dreams.

Are you living your dreams?  If not, why not?  If not, don't you think it's time.  You can do this.  All you need to do is take that first step.  Set your intention and then go for your dreams.

Until next time,
