Failing Forward: Tips On Dealing With Failure

Are you dealing with failure?  Don’t be afraid to fail. Failure is a Gift.

If you’re like a lot of people, making mistakes just isn’t your forte.  In fact, you may even cringe when it happens.  But ease up on yourself, get your ego out of the way and realize mistakes or our failures are a good thing.  Realize that this is a stepping stone to future success.

Michael Jordan and Will Smith on Dealing With Failure…

I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed. ~Michael Jordan

So, how do you deal with failure? Below are some tips on how to fail forward.

Acknowledgment

Ok, so you made a mistake.  Painful I know, but it doesn’t have to be.  We all make them.  What’s important here is how you recover from them.

Evaluation

Step outside of yourself here, remove the emotions and just look at the mistake.  It’s important to take an objective look at what happen.

Lessons Learned

Now that you have taken an objective look at what just happened.  What have you learned from this.  What other approach would you take or what could you have done differently.

Fail Forward

Now get up.  What do I mean by this.  Don’t just wallow in self pity.  This won’t get you anywhere.  Lick your wounds and now it’s time to move forward.  Realize that this failure is only temporary.  There will be another day tomorrow (God willing) and also realize that now you are even smarter and wiser for having gone through it.

Until next time,
